POWER FOR NORTH AUCKLAND.
EXTENSION NOW POSSIBLE. NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr. Allen Bell, M.P., has long been urging the Government to make available adequate supplies of electric power in North Auckland. He raised the question again a few weeks ago, and has now received the following reply from the Minister, the Hon. K. S. Williams: — "I have to state that the Department has given this matter considerable attention during the past year. It would appear that without the Whangarei borough, which is at present supplied by the Dominion Portland Cement Company, there is not sufficient load available to J warrant the extension of the lines north I of Henderson. Negotiations are now proI ceeding with new works which may be established in the district, and if they should contract for a substantial amount of power the position will bo greatly improved and the extension of the main lines into the district will be favourably considered."
DETAILS NOT AVAILABLE.
(!*..v Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Nothing definite is known regarding the "new works'' in the Whangarci district mentioned by the Minister. The British Standard Cement Company recently purchased from the J. J. Craig estates" the limestone country at Urqubart's Bay, which gives it a monopoly of the limestone deposits in that locality. The company's operations arc expected to be on a large scale.
