HELP FOR THE NEEDY.

ONEHUNGA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY. The. 64th, annual -meeting of the Onehunga Ladies' Benevolent Society was held Mast evening in the Presbyterian Hall, the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presiding. Among those present were Mrs. Isabella Hutchison, who has been a member of the society since its inception and was the first white child born at Onehunga, and Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. The report presented by Mrs. A. M. Parker, hon. secretary, told of the good work done by the ladies to the aged, the sick, and neglected children. Special mention was made of the quantity of clothing which had been given to the committee by residents and the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association for distribution. The. committee appreciate the kindness of the donors and the recipients were grateful for their gifts. The treasurer, Miss Robb, reported the receipts to have been:—From Charitable Aid Board, £10 7/2; subscriptions and donations, £24 11/; collection boxes, £12 8/11; Canadine bequest, £29; interest, £7 7/5; balance in bank on March 31, 1926, £82 IS/; balance in

hand same date, £3 5/9; total, £169 18/3. Expended in relief, £153 9/6; balance in bank on March 31, 1927, £15 5/4; cash in hand, £1 3/5; total, £169 18/3. The assets of the society consist of three shares in the Onehunga Building Society, worth £60. Mr. E. J. Gatland reported that the amount to the credit of the society from the estate of the late Mr. J. Canadine, was £3739 10/, bearing interest at 0* per cent, in addition to the rent of 27/6 per week from a cottage from the same estate, not yet sold. This means that the society has an assured income for all time of £5 per week, was the comment of Mr. J. E. Cowell, ex-Mayor. Mr. J. Rowe, J.P., reminded the meeting of another fund in the hands of the Mayor and town clerk for the benefit of the poor. Mr. J. E. Cowell confirmed this statement, and added that the fund is in credit £120. The reports and balance sheet were adopted. All the officers were re-elected as follows:—President, Mrs. M. Logan; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. C. Coldicutt (Mayoress), J. E. Cowell and D. D. Scott; secretary, Mrs. A. M. Parker; treasurer, Miss Bobb, with a committee of 24 members; auditor, Mr. E. J. Gat-

land. A cordial vote of *J»«nV« was passed to the officials, the auditor and to the local doctors for their gratuitous services to the poor.
