GIBSON V. THE KINS.
CLAIM MADE FOR DAMAGES
INJURY TO RAILWAY LABUI Kfcß
(U.v Telegraph.—Own C<.>rresiK>init>nt.) CRRISTCHUU H. this day. "Your suppliant therefore most humbly prays that Your Majesty will be most generously pleased to order that right be done in this matter." were the words accompanyiug a claim for damages heard to-day by Mr. Justice Adams. The claim was made formally against His Majesty the King, who, in accordance with practice in caees under the Crown Suits Act. was named ae respondent, not as defendant. The claim came up as a petition, and the claimant was a suppliant, not a plaintiff. The claim was for £1373 19/ damages on account of injuries in an accident at Sheffield on February Iβ, 1926. The suppliant, Charles Gibson, lalmurer, of Christchurcb, asserted that while he was employed on the railways at Sheffield he was digging a well, and an ironbark pole, weighing about. Scwt, was allowed to fall on his back. He alleged that the accident was caused by negligence. Mr. Hunter, for the suppliant, said that Gibsou's vertebrae had been injured. They were healing, but he still suffered much pain, and his system had been badly strained. He probably suffered from neurasthenia. He had not been able to do any work since the accident. Dr. Will, surgeon at the Christclmrch Hospital, said that Gibsou had received a severe injury to his spine, causing some permanent disability. When his case was ov%r his general condition probably would improve. The case is proceeding.
