"DRY" ELECTORATES.

NOMINAL INCREASE NOTED.

AUCKLAND SOUTH INCLUDED

NO LICENSES DESTROYED.

ißj Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. An examination of the proposed new electoral boundaries demonstrates interesting features from the licensing view- : point. The Boundary Commissioners are directed by statute to avoid interference with hotels if this is practicable, and it j is understood that the provisional boundaries of both the North and the South Island electorates have not destroyed any licenses. However, no lkense advocates will be able to claim the nominal satisfaction of an increased number of •"dry" constituencies. Auckland South, the new northern seat, is taken from the "dry" areas of Grey Lynn, RoskiTl and Eden, and, therefore is a no-license area. Wellington East has considerable boundary changes, involving absorptions from Wellington Suburbs (a "dry" area), and it Emerges without hotels, though no loss to licensing interests is involved. Thus the Wellington area includes three "dry" constituencies—South, East, and Suburbs. The disappearance of Ashburton, a no license district, presented no complication over the loss of licenses. Nut, as Ellesniere ami Te-muka will absorb a great deal from Ashburton, it is presumed that a good deal of former nolicense territory now stands in the "wet" area. The boundaries gazetted are provisional, and subject to further change, after petitions am heard by the commissioners.
