"AS YOU LIKE IT."
PERFORMANCE AT PAPATOETOE
Shakespeare's play, "As You Like It," was produced at the Papatoetoe Town Hall last evening. A crowrded audience of 500 people attended the performance, and over fifty were turned away for lack of accommodation. The audience was a record for the Papatoetoe Literary and Delwting Society, which was responsible foi the production of the play, the occasion l>eiiig the first performance of a Shakespearean play in character by tlie society. The cast was as follows: Orlando (Mr. X.A.Leonard). Adam (Mr. K. Owen), Oliver (Mr. F. E. Carr), Rosalind (Miss Ruby Wallace), Celia (Miss Muriel Morey). Lβ Beau (Mr. L. Kendall), Touchstone (Mr. F. Catt). Duke Frederick (Mr. C. A. Moore). Charles (Mr. E. Smith). Duke Senior (Mr. E. C Franklin), Amiens (Mr. J. A. Sandford), Corin (Mr. J. B. Nicholson), Silrius (Mr. L. Kendall). Jaques (Mr. Beecher Bullen). Audrey (Miss Leah Roseveare>. Sir Oliver Martext (Rev. T. H. Roseveare), Phebe (Miss Mary Wakelin). Hymen (Mr. J. A. Sandford), Pages (Misses Tui Morey and Effie Trimble). The play was staged under the management and direction of Mr. Beecher Bullen and Dr. A. B. Jameson. Stage i decorations and the costuming were in I the hands of a ladies committee, and J formed a feature of the production. The I lyric solos were sung by Mr. J. A. Sand{ford. A highly creditable performance was given by the leading player?. The evening was the first of the Debating Soeietys 2Sth session, which includes eleven evenings. A record number of season tickets was issued.
