Extensive Sugar Lands Inundated. FLOODS' FALL PREDICTED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) NEW ORLEANS, May 16. The levees along the Mississippi River for a distance of 50 miles are threaded practically all the way with breaks, from Bavou southward. These vary in width from 50ft to half a mile. Five hundred persons are marooned along a stretch of 12 miles. In view of the instability of the levees their position is regarded as extremely perilous. The town of Man sura, in the northern part of the sugar-growing territory, has been cut off. Relief trains are being rushed to the spot. Breaks on the west side of the town of Old River are allowing millions of .cubic feet of water a second to inundate the sugar lands. Dr. J. M. Cline, Government meteorologist at New Orleans, announces that the floods will diminish within a few days in spite of the fact that the river rose 4.10 ft in the last 24 hours at Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana.
