EARLY RESIDENT'S DEATH.

.MRS. S. TRIMXELL. At ilic advanced age of SS years, Mrs. Serena Trimuell died yesterday at. Maugonui. She was a 'daughter of Mr. William Gilbert Puekcy, one of the early missionaries of the Church of England to the Maoris in the Xorth. Her mother was a daughter of the Kev. Richard Davis, a missionary who arrived at, the Bay of Islands over a century age. The Rev. .Joseph Matthews and Mr. Puckey started a mission at Kaitaia. Both missionaries married daughters of the Rev. Davis, and it wus at Kaitaia that Mrs. Serena Trimuell was born. Dr. Trimnell arrived in the Xorth in thu early days, and took up a 500 acre farm at Piikcpotu near Kaitaia. He married Miss Puckcv.

Dr. Trimuell is stated to have first introduced gorse into" the Kaitaia district. .Seeds were sent to the missionaries stationed at Wafmate, and Dr. Trimnell planted seme at Kaitaia. fencing with great care. Later Dr. Trimnell and his wife, moved to Mangonui, where he had an extensive medical practice. Mrs. Trimnell was much admired lnall who knew her, owing to her kindly motherly disposition. She enjoyed exccllent health until a year ago. Deceased is survived by one son. Mr. G. \V. Trimnell. and one daughter, Miss Maggie Trimnell, who both reside at Mangonui.
