DIRECTOR IN AUCKLAND.
CONFERRING WITH LOCAL
BODIES,
SCHEMES TO BE PREPARED.
Mr. R. B. Hammond, Director of Town Planning, arrived from Wellington this morning, and will be here until May 22, conferring with the various local authorities, and explaining the procedure in connection with the preparation of town planning schemes under the Town Planning Act of last session. The more distant local authorities, which cannot be included in the present visit, will be visited by Mr. Hammond early in July. On Monday, May 28, Mr. Hammond will call at Hamilton on his way to Wellington, to discuss matters relating to the town planning scheme that has already been started at that centre. To-day the director was engaged in completing the arrangements for his Auckland itinerary. He will be at the meeting of the New Lynn Town Board at S o'clock to-night, and to-morrow he will meet the Devonport Borough Council at 10 a.m., the Takapuna Borough Council at 2 p.m., and the Avondale Borough Council at 7.30 p.m. With the exception of Otahuhu, which is included in the July visit, Mr. Hammond will confer with all the suburban borough councils, and also with a number of town board and road board authorities, during the next ten days. On May 26, in continuation of his North Island tour, Mr. Hammond will leave Wellington for Hastings, Have-; lock North, Napier (also Taradale). His itinerary will then be as follows:—Wairoa, May 28; Gisborne, arrive 5 p.m., 29th; Opotiki, mid-day, May 31; Whakatane, morning, June 1; Rotorua, same afternoon; Tauranga, June 2; Auckland, 3rd; Te Kuiti, arrive,-11.40 p.m., June 5; Tauraarunui, arrive I p.m., 6th; Ohakune, 7.55 p.m. same day (Raetihi invited to the meeting); Taihape, arrive 6.14 a.m., 7th; Wellington, arrive 6.30 p.m., same day; Master ton, arrive 11.15 a.m., 13th; Carterton, Greytown, 14th, returning to Wellington; New Plymouth, June 15; Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford, 16th; Eltham and Hawera, 17th; Patea, 18th; Wanganui, 19th; Marton and Feilding, 20th; Palmerston North, Waipukurau and Dannevirke, 21st; Woodville (also Pahiatua), Shannon and Foxton, 22nd; Levin and Otaki, returning to Wellington, 23rd.
Otahuhu borough and the Papakura, Pa pa toe toe and Manurewa town districts are included ip the schedule from July 1 to 4. On July 5 a visit will be paid to Pukekohe, Huhtly. Ngaruawahia and Te Awamutu, on July 6 to Gambridge, and on the 7th to Monrinsville, Te Aroha and Paeroa. Thames will be visited on July 8, and the director proposes to be back in Wellington on the JOth.
