FRUIT PLENTIFUL BUCK EGGS CHEAPER. GOOD SUPPLY OF VEGETABLES. Peak prices for eggs appear to have i passed for the present. Supplies of duck eggs are being sent in more freely, and the price has in consequence dropped froin 3/4 a week ago to 2/10 and 3/. Fresh hen eggs, however, are etill quoted at 3/8 per dozen, chjlled eggs 2/8, and preserved eggs 2/6 per dozen. Butter and Cheese. These linep are unchanged in prjce, butter being unusually cheap for thJ3 time of the year, prices being governed here by the rates ruling on the London market. Quotations are, superfine factory butter 1/G per lb, for cash across the counter; first grade, 1/5, and second grade, 1/4 per lb: Farmers butter is quoted from 1/2 to 1/3 per lb. Cheese sells at 1/2 to 1/4 per lb, and extra matured makes 1/6. Ham and Bacon. Colder weather has increased the demand for bacon and hams. Cuts of bacon sell retail from 9Jd to 1/5 per lb, and rashers 1/4 to 1/6, whole ham can be got from 1/3 to 1/4 per lb, and rashers 1/8 to 1/9 per lb. Meat. Prices for jueat li-maiu unchanged, pork sausages sell at 8d per lb, and beef sausages 6d. Rump steak costs lid per lb, and beef steak sd. The sirloin joint is 8d per lb, and rib sd. Rolled beef can be got at 4d per lb. Mutton sells at the following prices: Leg 8d; shoulder 6d; loin Gd; and chops 10d per lb. Lamb still costs 1/2 per lb for a leg; fore-quarter 7d; hindquarter 1/; loin 10d; and chope 1/ per Fillets of veal sell at 10d, and cutlets at lid per lb. Cooked meats are quoted as follows: Boiled ham 2/6 per lb; roast pork 2/; pressed tongue 2/2; pressed beef 1/2: and eorned beef 1/8 per lb. Fish. Good weather resulted in the market being well supplied with all kinds of ftsh. Fine Thames flounders sell at 1/ per lb, and Canadian salmon can be got at 2/ per lb. Schnapper fillets sell from 3d to id each; smoked fish 10d per lb; John Dory 1/; blue cod 1/9; hapuka 1/j lemon fish 8d; and barracota 9d per lb. Fruit. Very fine displays of fruit are showing ill the windows of retailers, and prices for the mpet useful lines such as apples and pears are cheap. Dessert apples sell at 3d to 4d per lb; cooking apples ruling the game. Dessert pears are offered at
3d to 4d per lb; and cookers at 51b per shilling. - Bananas are dearer tins week, the price being now 4d per lb for best quality. Lemons sell from 1/6 to 2/ per dozen; oranges 3/6 per dozen; mandarins 2/ per dozen; passion fruit 9d to 10d per dozen. Hothouse grapes are quoted from 2/6 to 3/6 per lb, and sweetwater 1/4 per lb. Vegetables. Ample supplies of vegetables are offering. Fine large tomatoes are quoted at 8d per lb; cabbage sell from 3d to 6d each; cauliflowers 6d to 1/; lettuce 2d to 3d; kumaras 61b for 1/; potatoes, swedes and onions 8d to 10d per lb; green peas and beans are getting scarce and eell at 6d per lb.
