REPORTS EXAGGERATED. ; CRATER SAID TO BE NORMAL. .(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKL Monday. In regard to earthquake shocks in White Island. Mr. Guide, of Opotiki. states that the shocks continued with more or less severity until 3 p.m. yesterday, from which time they commenced to decrease in intensity. ; After staying for a time this morning ] a launch which had been standing by left again for Tauranga. tho men working on the island having decided to remain. Although there are still slight shocks occurring, no damage whatever has been done. The crater is no more active than usual. Hourly wireless communication is being kept up. Messrs. Walker and Mokomoko, launch-owners, of Opotiki. have both signified their willingness to proceed to the island if necessary. ! LAUNCH RETURNS TO TAURANGA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
