CAR CAUGHT BY FLOOD.
MOTORISTS IN FAR HORT& NIGHT SPENT IN THE OPEN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) TE PAKI, Monday. Two young Aucklanders, Messrs. L. L. White and L. Irvine, were motoring along the Ninety Mile Beach on Saturday night in heavy rain, and when juet turning into Te Paki Creek the car we canght broadside on by a sheet of water from the creek. Both men had to leave the car hurriedly, and make for the nearest MIL Mr. White attempted to walk to Te Paid, 5$ miles, but he lost his way in tile darkness and rain. He returned in the morning to the beach, found Mr. Irvine who had slept in the sand hills, and set out for Mr. Keene's farm, where thej; received food and clothing. The car, which is insured, i«* engulfed by the flood, and only its hood is visible in the sand. An attempt to pull it out was made on Sunday, but it failed. The only explanation of the sudden flood ie that three small lakes which are a short way up the creek suddenly broke their sand banks owing to cxce* sive rain.
