COUNCILLORS' PROTEST.
SHOPS AT MOUNT EDEIT. A TRENCHANT CRITIC. An intimation received by the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening that the director of town planning inten3ed to visit the district, led Mr. D. C. Fraser to strongly criticise some shops which have been erected. "They are an absolute disgrace to Mount Eden," said Mr. Fraser. He added that he would like the director of town planning to see them. The Mayor (Mr. E. H. Potter): What is wrong with them? Mr. Fraser: I am trying to tell youThe Mayor: They conform with the by-laws. Mr. Fraser: Well, it is time the by-laws were altered. The Mayor: You are reflecting upon the owner and everybody. Mr. Fraser: I have taken good care not to find out who the owner is» b u * I have a good idea. I strongly object to the shops. The Mayor: That is no objection. Mr. Fraser replied that the shop* were not worthy of the borough, and he suggested that the councillors should inspect them. This the Mayor and some of the coal* cillors agreed to do. ■*-
