Mr. Gaffey took him into his house for the night and pave him food. The next day Freebairn left, after thanking Mr. Gaffey. but later he returned, and, during the temporary absence of the family he stole the shirt and collar belonging to Mr. (laffey's son. ''It was a mean, contemptible theft," added Mr. Cum m ings. '"On Saturday he was seen at the races and arrested. Ho has been associating with another thief." Freebairn was remanded for sentence until Thursday next, when tin- probation otlic'cr will be present.
