ALL BY HIMSELF.
SITTING IN A VAN.
N A VACANT SECTION.
WHAT A POLICEMAN FOUND,
There is a well-known song which goes like this: '".Sitting in a corner, all by myself."
With Henry Arthur Esdale (22), who made an appearance at the Police Court this morning, it was a case of '"sitting hi a van, all by myself."'
Esdale pleaded guilty to the charge of being an idle and disorderly person, having insufficient means of support.
Mr. Edwards, the senior sergeant, told the magistrate that Esdale was iound at 1.30 this morning sitting in a van on a vacant section. When asked to explain his presence there by a constable, he replied that he was "'minding the van until daylight." He added that he had not worked since coming to the city from the country three weeks ago. Esdale had been previously before the court when he was admitted to probation. However this had now expired.
Captain Bavies, of the Salvation Army stated that accused was a married man and had been working in the country for £1 15/- per week, lie thought that he could do better by coming to the city, but had not been able to find employment in Auckland. Esdale was now willing to go back to his work in the country.
'"Very well," said Mr. Hunt. "I will remand him for a week in your care, Captain, but if he can get away to <Uie country before that, well and good."
