THE TAMAKI BRIDGE.
The pictures showing the site of the proposed new bridge published in t ".ie -Mar"" arc very pretty, fait the explanatory statement beneath is somewhat misleading. It says the new bridge would *'gi\e the Kasi Tatnaki people a straight inn into town instead oi having to go round by way of J'* :>atoetoe or Panmnrc." That statement 1- tine of only a small portion ..f the di-tii.-l s fleeted —bene? all the oppo.jtion n. the bridge. T"ie portion of the di-trict that would benefit lie- in a snri of "pocket." and that i- lite |mii winch would be brought niii.-s nearer to town. If despite all protc-i - the bridge i- proceeded *itk. then the Iwttcnncnt claii-c should bo put in'' o oj>craJio'i. and th..-e landowners who receive most of the benefit should be taxed accordingly. If that w,-re done I don't think ".here would be the keen opj«osition to the bridge now in evidence throughout the district. pm m; PHILIPS-
