PROMOTING A MAYOR.

The inner workings of the Citizens Progressive League are interesting. In the first instance, it was promoted t.. oppose the claim* of Laliour. and was in the main an offshoot of the Reform party in local politics. This fact has complicated its action very considerably in the present Mayoral contort. Originally it was decided to put forward Mr. .T. Warnock as a candidate. This was acceptable to the majority tip to the time when it became evident that Mr. Blood worth would go to the poll. This factor altered the attitude of many. At a meeting of the committee of the ( itizen*' Progressiva League the matter was again discussed, and Mr. H. K. Mackenzie has Mated at a public meeting that, by 30 votes to five, it was decided to a«k Mr. Warnock to withdraw. The minority, it is alleged, hastened to urge Mr. Warnock to stand firm.
