SCHOOL ATHLETICS.
BIG DAY AT DOMAIN. CHAMPIONSHIPS TO-MORROW. The largest sports gathering in the Dominion from the point of view of entries is the annual championship gathering of the Auckland Primary ■in- Athletic Association. This year's event -will be held on the Domain to-morrow, when the great expanse of green sward will swarm with midget athletes of both sexes. It is not a question of tens and twenties, but of thousands of competitors. For instance, the 50 yards schools' championship for boys under eight years of age will be run in IS heats, with 20 competitors in each lien.t—a total of 300 competitors for one race. There are in all 35 events for boys, and for even so severe a trial a% the mile foot race there are 90 competitors, while for the sprint events the entries range from 300 to 400 in each. In all, the juvenile athletes of both sexes number something like 3000. A most finely adjusted schedule has to be prepared to get the sports through in the (lay, and the committee lias organised to run off the heats and finals at a steady pace of an event per minute. This aspect of the sports is in itself a study in system and organisation.
