McCall, rose and stated that at a pre- I vious meeting of the board a member j had stated that he (the. member) had no confidence whatsoever in the works com- | mittee. The chairman said he was quite I prepared to resign, but a«ked the member to explain himself. He also pointed out that with few exceptions the committee's recommendations had Ik-cii adopted. After several second?.' silence the Kev. \Y. C. Wood asked if there was hii.v business, before the board, whereupon the chairman again rose and told Mr. Wood that he had made a statement at the last meeting, and again asked him to explain it. Mr. Wood then replied that he was not there to be catechised by the chairman or anyone else, and that he could say whatever pleased him' as long as it , wi.'- about the business and at the right time. "I am here to do business, not to j play," he added. The- chairman then remarked that I silence gives consent, and moved that the board express confidence in the caplabilities of the work* committee to do its work. Mr. Nicol then and seconded the motion, saying that he dirt ikk iiiihu being criticised by someone who knew what he was talking nbout, but. to be criticised by someone who admittted that he knew nothing about roads was out of the question. After more discussion which Mr. Wood j termed "comic opera.' , the chairman put the motion. Two murmurs were heard. "Carried.' , said the chairman. | Mr. Wood: If that was carried I don't j know what you call carried. Business was then resumed.
