AN ADVENTUROUS TRIP.
LAUNCH IN HEAVY WEATHER.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
WHAKATANE, Tuesday
Three Whakatane boating enthusiasts, Messrs. H. West, F. Prideaux and D. McKenzie had a somewhat adventurous experience last week. They went to Auckland at the beginning of the week, and bought the launch Miami, in which they intended to return to Whakatane. The weather was very unsettled, and it was not till Thursday afternoon that it became more favourable and a start was made.
The first stop was at .Drunken Bay, then Waiheke, and the Watchman was made at daybreak on Friday. The sea was still choppy, but the journey was continued on Friday as far as Slipper Island, where a stop was made for the night. On Saturday morning all went well till about 11 a.m., when a strong north-westerly rain storm was encountered. The boat got on vcrj well in the heavy sea, but the crew were pleased to make the sheltered waters of the Tauranga Harbour at about 3.30 that afternoon. They left the boat there (pending more favourable weather conditions), and motored to Whakatane by car.
