British Strike Settlement Hurts

BERLIN, February 17. Dr. Hoehler. German Finance Minister. speaking in the Reichstag, referred to the effect in Germany of the termination of the miners' strike in Britain. One result was that the unemployed in Germany now numbered 1.7~>0.000. The general situation was therefore serious, and it was intensified by the rapidly growing burden of the Reparation payments. The Minister pointed out that Germany's obligations in 11)27 due to war reparation amounted to £100,(XX),000. "Despite our goodwill, at present I can see no possibility of raising the money," he said. "Germany is willing to fulfil her obligations to the utmost, but a necessary condition for the carrying out of the Danes plan is an improvement in German trade, which, u; still struggling."
