(Received 10.30 a.m.l NEW YORK, February IT. As a result of cloudbursts throughout California from sft to Bft of water has flooded some districts. Motor traffic all over the State is at a standstill. Six hundred people were driven from their homes at Santa Monica. Steamers are en route from San Francisco to San Pedro with perishable freights, which the railways have not been able to handle.
For a week the swollen San Diego River has been dammed by the Sante Fe railway bridge. This the Government is preparing to have destroyed by dynamite, in order to prevent the valley below from being engulfed. There are 2500 homeless people at Long Beach. 13 Deaths From Snowslide. At least 24 dead, and damage to property, expected to total several million doUars, are results of unprecedented rains and snow storms in California, Utah, Nevada and Arizona since the beginning of the week. The forecast on Thursday was for continued rains. The floods have forced 5000 residents of southern California cities to flee from their homes. Damage to bridges at Los Angeles alone runs into 1,000,000 dollars. Communication with San Diego is completely severed except by sea and radio. The wind toppled over 100 oil derricks in the Taft district. The death list from snowslides near Fresno (207 miles from San Francisco) has reached thirteen.—(Sydney "Sun.")
