ACTION BY CONFERENCE
iDy Telegraph. — Pros* Association.! CHRISTCHCRCH, Wednesday
The Dominion conference of the San ders Cup delegates met at Diamond Har
bour this evening.
The chairman. Mr. \V. Lester, congratulated the Bcttv's crew on their
Mr. jr. Paul (Uunedin) said he also wished to congratulate the Betty on her win. Each year seemed to sec wider interest in the contest. However, tliev would have to devise some methods to secure that in future boats should strictly conform to the Rona type. At present it was possible for boats not strictly conforming to the Rona design to compete. It was no use disguising the fact that the Rona type was ideaf. At the present contest there were four Rona boats. It was desirable that in future each boat should be an exact replica of the Rona. He suggested a conference of builders and representatives of the provinces to decide on type.
Mr. W. A. Wilkinson (Auckland) said it was unnecessary to bring in builders. There should be a Dominion measurer, a paid man if necessary.
Mr. J. Davys (Otago) stated that the whole trouble was caused because there had not been sufficient latitude allowed when the conditions had been drawn up.
Mr. N. Gillies (Napier) said that six Rona type boats had lieen built, vet not <uie of them was the true Rona type, lliey should give the Dominion measurer a final say in the matter.
The chairman stated that the provinces ordered boats true to Rona tvpe. but invariably the builders failed" to deliver boats true to specifications. Mr. A. B. Moffet (Southland) said that a man who ordered a boat was always too keen to take it over and did not take care to examine it before deliverv.
Mr. O. Moller (Auckland) said that a Dominion conference should control the measuring of boats i»ntl not leave it to provincial measurers. It was imperative that a Dominion measurer be appointed. Mr. I'iiul said the more resirietkAs there were the more eostl}- the boats
would become. He bad been told by two expert boat builders that Betty was very nearly true to the Rona type. Mr. Gillies said that boats not strictly built -to the Rona design were dodging measurements. It was moved by Mr. Wilkinson and seconded by Mr. Hcnsen that it be recommended to the controlling authorities in Auckland that a Dominion measurer l>e appointed to measure all boats three months before the contest. Mr. Mollcr said that if the present beats had been certified they should comply. If they did not the provincial Hieasurer deserved censure. The motion was carried. Messrs. -I. McCall (Canterbury 1. Paul. Davys and Moffet voting against it.
