A PERPEXING PROBLEM.
SITE OF KEREONE SCHOOL.
The position of the new school which is to be built for the children of the ex-servicemen's settlement at Kereone is causing some difficult}* to the Auckland Education Board. Kereone Is ail agricultural settlement of about 2300 acres between Morrinsville and Matamata. At present there is a temporary school in the Kereone Public Hall.
At to-dav's meeting of the board rival deputations stated their cases. Mr. A. Topham, on behalf of the Kereone Welfare League, said he represented the parents of 76 children. The league did not approve of the site which has been provisionally chosen by the board's inspector and the Kereone School Committee, but recommended that the new building should be erected at the junction of six cross-roads, where it would be better placed for the future growth of the district.
On the other hand, Mr. W. E. Watts, chairman of the Kereone School Committee. urged the final choice c-f the site provisionally chosen. This is not far from the present temporary establishment.
Explaining the geographical position, the chief inspector to the board said that whatever position was decided on there would be a considerable distance for some of the children to go to school. It was quite impossible to find a situ which would be convenient for very - bodv.
Eventually it was decided u> drier tlndecision until after the next ineetin<f of the Kereone householders, ty be held in April, The meeting will be asked to take a vote ou the question.
