SWIMMING DELEGATES.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENED. VISITS TO AUSTRALIA. The annual conference of delegates of the swimming centres of the Dominion was held in the Y.M.C.A. this morning, Mr. W. E. D. Bishop, president of the New Zealand Council presiding.'— The following delegates were present: —Messre. L. Brighton and J. Enwright (Auckland), Messrs. R. Pichard and B. Graham (Hawke's Bay), Messrs. J. S. B. Haig and J. L. Mclndoe (Otago), Messrs. F. *J. Dunn and H. H. Fraser (South Canterbury), Mr. J. T. Fabey (Manaratu), Messrs C. Bryant and F. Wilson (Wanganui), Messrs. P. Cpira and P. Rundle (Wellington), Messrs. C. Atkinson and M. E. Lyons (Canterbury) and Mr. J. W. Toomey (Asliburton). Interchange of Swimmers. A remit from the Wellington centre, brought up by Mr. P. Rundle, that it be a recommendation to the council to open negotiations with the Australian union for an interchange of male swimmers to Australia and Australian male swimmers to New Zealand. The speaker said the male swimmers were mentioned because the femalee had | been making visits and it was time the ! male swimmers had a chance. They wanted to see how their men lined up against the best in Australia. By doing [ this they would obtain a boost and swimming would reach a higher plane, j Mr. M. E. Lyons (Canterbury) moved as an amendment that the word "male" in each case be deleted. He thought it should be general, and it would be inadvisable to put such a motion as proposed on the books. Not only would they have the swimmers up in arms but there was the question of women's rights. (Laughter).
The Wellington delegates agreed to the deletion of the words complained of, and the remit was carried. | A remit from the Wellington Centre that rule 12 of the diving rules be amended to read "the four compulsory dives be selected from the full list of dives as contained in the official handbook" was agreed to. Mr. M. E. Lyons (Canterbury) moved "That the registration fee of 1/ per senior declared member payable under law 8 be reduced to Cd per senior declared member." The motion was lost after some discussion. Canterbury's remit that it be a recommendation to the council that the council consider the advisability of fixing a distance limit of 880 yds on school children when swimming for certificates was carried. "That the New Zealand championship water polo matches be arranged on the two-life system" was moved by Canterbury. After discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Fraser (South Canterbury) to leave the matter in the hands of the council to devise some means of arranging the water polo draw. It was agreed that the water polo draw at the Dominion championships should be arranged by the council and not by the centre controlling the meeting, and at least one week beforehand. It was decided that the Dominion championships in 1928 be held at Dunedin.
