COLOURS RECOVERED.
Echo of Historic Battle of Worth. ROMANTIC STORY. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 24. The '"Times'" Strasbourg correspondent says that a fragment of the colours of the Bth Cuirassiers, which were practically annihilated at the battle of Worth in 1870, were dramatically recovered. A dying non-commissioned officer picked up the colours on the field and handed them to the occupant of the next bed in hospital, requesting that they be forwarded to the regiment. The recipient, however, sold the gold embroidery, made a necktie of the blue silk, and kept the white silk with the golden inscription of the battle honours, which has now been acquired for the Army Museum. a village, in Alsace, was the scene of the defeat of the French under MacMahon by the Germans under the Crown Prince of Prussia, on August 6. 1870. Reichshofer is the name the French give the battle.
