BIRKENHEAD BAND.
PAVILION IN CIVIC RESERVE. OFFICIALLY OPkNED LAST EVENING. The new bandstand in the civic reserve at Birkentiead was ofliria.ly opened lasi evening•' in the. presence vi a large assemblage of residents, whose interest was demonstrated by their remaining throughout the proceedings, during wnich showers" of rain were frequent. The Mayor of Birkeuhead (Mr. E. G. Skeates) reviewed the progressive stages of the borough, band since its formation. This combination, which was now under Bandmaster Greg. Smith, was a great asset to the district. He acknowledged the self-help spirit of the bandsmen, who. had voluntarily supplied the labour for the. erection of the, new pavilion under.the direction of Mr. Ernest Swindail, the materials.having besn supplied by the Borough Council. The Mayor then called upon Miss Huddleston, daughter of Mr.. Geo. A. Huddleston, a foundation member and ex-secretary of the band,-to cut the ribbon! The scissors used-for the. purpose were presented to Miss Huddleston as a memento of the occasion. .
the bandsmen then occupied the pavilion, playing martial airs and Christmas carols, cohcludiilg.-wiih.the National Anthem.' , ••■• •....■.'.■'
