MINING NEWS.

Waihi.—The principal operations carried out in the Waihi mine during the fourweekly period ended October 23, 1026, were as follows: —No. 15 level: The west drive was advanced to 730 ft. From 544 to 63oft is in oxidised country. At 667 ft there is a soft slide about 1 foot wide, course 200 degrees (true) vertical. No. 14 level: Edward lode, south of Dunlop S.E. crosscut—The drive has been carried to 398 ft. The average assay value from 351 to 387 ft is IG/2 per ton. A crosscut is now in progress at 350 ft to prove the east section of the lode. The Sprat winze is down 21ft. The assay value at 20ft is 11/11 per ton. North section of Martha lode: The Cow winze has been commenced at 188 ft east of No. 4 shaft crosscut, and is down 7ft. The assay value at this point is 32/1 per ton. No. 13 level: On the Empire lode, west of Trout south-east crosscut, the drive was advanced to 149 ft. The average assay value from 30 to 132 ft is 22/10 per ton. At 84ft the full width of the lode is 14ft. average assay value 37/6 per ton. No. 12 level : Henderson south-east crosscut was advanced to S7t't. At 53ft there is lft of mixture assaying 4/1 per ton. At 58ft there is lift of quartz, assay value 2/3 per ton, course .x> degrees (true) vertical. At 6Sft a further 2ft of quartz was intersected, assay value 15/ per ton, conrse 206 degrees (true), dip 1 in 6 south. The two latter veins comprise the south branch of Dreadnonght lode. No. 11 level: Martha lode, east of Kauri crosscut —The drive was advanced to 232 ft. The average assay value from 162 to 214 ft is 23/11 per ton. In the crosscut at 172 ft the last 4ft assayed 7/ per ton. No. 10 level: Edward Cross lode—'The south drive is now a total distance of 1798 ft. A crosscut at 1763 ft proved the full width to be 19ft. composed of quartz with bands of country. The valne is very low. Shark north-west crosscut is out 474 ft. At 40<>ft a mixture of quartz and country 13ft wide of low value was intersected. The course is 40 degrees (true) and dip 1 in 12 south-east. Crosscutting has stopped, and driving west on the -west reef has been commenced at 410 ft in. Nineteen feet has been done in this direction in a mixture of quartz and country of very low value. No. 9 level: Koyal lode, of Edward junction—The drive was advanced to 197 ft. The width of the reef varied from 1 to oft. and assay valne from 1/7 to 23/10 per ton. No. 8 level : North leader in Bulls north crosscut —The N.E. drive has reached a total distance of 263 ft. Width of quartz varied from 1 to 3ft. and assay valttl from 176 to 253 ft is 39/S per too.
