XMAS SWIMMING CARNIVAL.
THE PONSONBY CLUB. HANDICAPS FOR CHRISTMAS DAY. CHAMPIONS TO MEET. The Christmas Day Swimming Carnival, promoted by the Ponsonby Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club, to be held at the Shelly Beach Bath, should prove a great attraction for the Christmas holiday. The gala which will start at half-past two o'clock, should, according to the "cracks" who have handed in their entry, and the thoroughness of the handicapping, prove an afternoon full of excitement and thrills. According to the large entry list, which shows that many of Auckland's best swimmers have entered, and judging from the handicaps, and the results of the gala held at the Tepid Baths on Tuesday last, close finishes will no doubt be a feature of the meeting. An interesting event will be the 50 yards relay race, where teams of four, representing the warships of the New Zealand Squadron, will compete. While the ladies' 100 yards handicap, with Miss Farquhar, the 100 yards intermediate champion of Auckland, giving away 2 seconds to both Miss P. Page, the New Zealand 220 and 440 yards champion, and to Miss J. Bell, with Miss E. Champion, the 220 yards intermediate champion of Auckland, getting away on 6 sees, the contest, being really * a race among champions, is not likely to lack interest. The inter-club handicap will also be a hard go, for Baird, Cunnold, Adamson and 16 other good men have all entered. The carnival is to be officially opened by Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., and in order that there shall be no dull moments, it has been arranged to have the Auckland Watersider Workers' Band in attendance.

KELLERMAN CUP RACE. At a meeting last night of the Auckland centre, the chairman (Mr. T. C. Hobbs-Jones), reported he had interviewed officials of the Auckland Harbour Board with regard to the proposed course for the three-miles race for the Kellerman Cup to be held in the Waitemata Harbour next month. The board was unable to approve of the race being started from Prince's wharf on a week day as the wharf would then be in use. The harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sargeant, had promised to draw a plan outlining a revised course and had stated it might be possible to' enclose portion of Western wharf for the purpose of charging spectators.
Mr. W. J. Gibbons, sole water-polo selector, reported that matches between Possible and Probable teams would be played in conjunction with the Auckland championship carnivals on January 11 and 13, with a view to selection of the Auckland representative team.
The Mount Eden Club was granted permission to hold its second carnival at the Mount Eden Baths on January 17 and the Helensville Club was allotted December 2S as a carnival date.
