MATAMATA NOTES.

HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION. (By Telejraph.—Own Correspondent.) MATAMATA, this day. At a meeting of the Matamata Town Board, it was decided, on the foreman's recommendation, to dispose of the horses used for carting and road repairs. In future motor traction will be used. The Public Trustee wrote regretting that an application for a loan of £8000 for the erection of a municipal theatre and town hall could not be agreed to. At the monthly meeting of the Matamata Chamber of Commerce, the weekly half-holiday came up for discussion. Matamata has for many years observed the half holiday on Saturday, but opinion was voiced that, in order to properly cater for the farmer, a change was necessary. One member said that the Matamata business people placed sport before business, and then complained because business was bad. It was decided to recommend to the business people that a poll be taken as between Saturday and Thursday.
