ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES. The weather was fine berore breakfast for training' work at Ellerslie this moraine, but after the interval a drizzling: rain set In and continued till the work was completed. The course proper, outside three trp.tles. was used for fast work, and the going: was good, particularly before breakfast. THE COURSE PROPER. Commendation, wno was picked up about the flve-furlong post by Many Colours, went six rurlongs in i.lB 2-5. Bahama and Waitekohe sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-ss. Segment and Luxurious ran home from the new llve-furlong post in 1.6 1-5. Laity and Cosmetic went four rurlongs in sis. Gascony making similar time for the same distance. Judge's Box and War Officer ran Aye furlongs in 1.9 3-5. Star Ranger, who was sent over a round. completed the last seven furlongs in 1.41 --5. Rapine went about a mile and a-half, "icing picked up by Decoy Bird at the -even-furlong post. The last round took Eulalie and Agrion ran four furlongs in 53 1 -ss. Princess Ronnie was in front of Charlady over six rurlongs, which she covered in 1.19. Papercliase went the last four furlonsrs or her work in 53 2-ss, and Archeno did three furlongs in 37 1-ss. Grand Knight and Nadarino ran six furlongs in 1.17 3-5. Tanadees, Town Bank, and Te Kara were about on terms, just in front or Battlement, over a round in 2.3 2-5. Oreum ran a round in 2.0 1-5. Mask was in rront or Te Monanui and Clarinda at the finish or six rurlongs in 1.20 2-5. Stormy ran five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. star Stranger, who was picked up by Mimetic at the six-furlong post, ran a round in 2.3 2-5. Dull weather with a cold easterly wind prevailed fur early work at Awapuni thin morning. The outside of the track proper was open, but the majority of horses wan worked on the plough, which was in splendid order. Orchid sprinted four furlongs in 50s. Catcall (Mackie) and Inoe (S. Wilson) were sent over seven furlongs, and following an indifferent start they ran the last six in 1.21, Catcall holding the advantage. Pantler and Benmure were companions over a round and a-half on the plough, doing the last six in 1.22. Pantlpr had a shade the advantage over the cup eandi--date. Hymestrason (Green) and Some Lad (Mackie) left five furlongs behind in 1.6.. Hvme.srrason led throughout, aud won by half a length. Comedy Prince (Jenkins I and Little River (A. McDonald) went a round of the hurdles in a good display, but Comedy Prince had the measure of his opponent. Polar (Mackie) nnd Santonin (C. Browne I were sent over a mile on tlie grass in 1.53. Polar appearing to hold his companion. Poraki (Wilson). Conviction (Green), and March On (Jenkins) finished in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.21. Powhiri (A. Macdonald) went alone over five furlongs, giving a finished display. Crown Area. Cavity and Sugar Bag were associated over half a mile in 545. Sottano was sent a mile and a-quarter?, on the grass, being assisted by Shiningi Star over the first portion and Royal the second. Sottano put up a fair perform-* ance, and will start in the Cup in preference?' to the Hurdles, and will be ridden by E.i Dunn. • Buoyant, looking very Well, did a round > on the plough under a hard pull. Alter breakfast, Royal Damon and Royal Time worked separately on the plough. ... Merry Day was picked up by Epi6tle on A a second round of the plough.
