OFFICE OR THE HOME?
TREND OF THE PRESENT-DAY GIRL. CONFLICTING OPINIONS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. Regarding the etatement made by Dr. Hansen, principal of the Christchurch Technical College that there was a trend among girls to swing back towards domestic rather than commercial work, Mr. Alridge, principal of the Dunedin Technical College, said, that ac far as Dunedin was concerned it qpuld not be said that girls were deserting the office for the home. At present only 64 girls were taking the domestic course. He pointed out, however, that nearly half of the girls leaving the secondary and technical schoojp took up work connected with the home, which would make one expect that the domestic course at secondary and technical schools would be more popular than was the case. His experience was that a girl with reasonable training in commercial work was in great demand.
