THE LABURNUM AND VERONICA
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to correct the' impression your photo of the sloops -Veronica and Laburnum, published in i Monday night's "Star," has given to | many of your readers. Neither of the ! sloops is being used, or has ever been I used as a training ship for New Zealand j naval ratings. The crews of both ships are exclusively drawn from Imperial ratings who serve their time on this station as part of their foreign service. The only training ship at present for New Zealand ratings is H.M.s. Philomel. The New Zealand ratings, after serving for a time in this ship are then drafted to the Dunedin or Diomede to complete their training and finally to become fully blown "Matlows." The only time a New Zealand rating is ever sent to the sloops is in case of shortage in a ship's company caused through sickness or some other reason, and they are sent back to their own ship immediately a relief is obtained from the Imperial Naw.—l am etc., EX-IMPERIAL FLAT FOOT. ' j "Bluejacket" (Laburnum) points out : the same facts. j
