"HOT."

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Some twelve months ago Miss Amy Moss appealed for cooler clothing in summer for policemen. In your Tuesday's issue is a plea in the same respect on behalf of telegraph messengers and City Council pointsmen. Let every motorist, waiting to automatically obey the white-gloved signal, view the v rest of the regalia, and mutter " Hot "; let every citizen receiving telegrams from diminutive messengers this Christmastide take a glance at 'the uniform and register " Hot." Then let some " cool " demands be made on the powers that be, and probably next year " Christmas " and summer may mean something less gruelling than hitherto to these public servants. A hearty Christmas to them all!—I am, etc., ALICE BASTEN.
