THE RED TIE.
MEANING IMPUTED. PORTERS' UNIFORM ALTERED. LONDON, December 21. Part of the uniform of the porters of the Southern Railway Company is a red tie, and since the strike it has been mistaken to indicate extreme politics, causing the men to be insulted and discomfiting explosive colonels using the line. The company is therefore replacing the red by a green tie. It was originally issued in the form of a red scarf to enable it to be waved as a danger signal.—(Sydney "Sun.")
