MONSTER WHIRLWIND

- —■■ ■'■■■ m ■ ■ ■■ — TE AWAMUTU VISITATION. PATH OF DESTRUCTION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, this day. Settlers on Frontier Road had an aweinspiring experience yesterday during a rainstorm, when a monster whirlwind, about a chain wide, swept over several paddocks for a distance of about a mile. The main force of the whirlwind was experienced on the properties of Messrs. Nicholson and Whitton. On the former's property the cowshed which was in its path was completely demolished and the milking plant damaged. On Mr. Whitton's farm a belt of trees received the full force of the wind, with the result that a number of them were split in two, while others were torn up. Fortunately, the path of the visitation was not in a thickly-populated area, otherwise there would have been a much greater amount of damage, judging by the manner in which the cowshed was lifted almost bodly from its foundations.
