"I think the day ia coming when the agricultural and pastoral shows of the Dominion will resolve themselves into one or two main fixtures at the most suitable centres. Paimerston North must always be a main centre, and this is where the Royal Show should be held every second year, alternating with one South Island centre."
This was the opinion expressed by Mr. R. D. D. McLean, of Maraekakaho, Hawke's Eay, a prominent, stock breeder, when interviewed on various maitera of agricultural and pastoral icitiest. Anckland, he stated, wa<- too m:t of the way as a Royal Show centre. It waa too far to send stock theTe from the lower half of rhe North Island, and the risk of interruption in the lines of communication with the Northern centre waa far greater than waa the case in the transporting of stock to Paimerston North. "Here," he said, "you have a first-class ground, with splendid appointments. Auckland cannot bear all-round comparison with it. The Paimerston North Showgrounds am the most up-to-date in the North Island, and are ideally central for breeders."
