APACHE'S REVENGE.
DUEL INSTEAD OF MURDER. FIVE YEARS AFTER. PARIS, October 22. A singular story of Apache treachery and vengeance ended at dawn yesterday in the Place de la Trinite in a revolver duel between two men, who, having spent the night in drinking together and exchanging memories, suddenly decided to settle an old difference. (ffhe story began five years ago, when Lucien Pelous, known as "Lulu dv Faubourg," having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment, decided to reveal to the police certain episodes in which he had been concerned with one Pierrot, another denizen of the Faubourg Montmartre. The result of his confidences was that Pierrot was arrested and sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
Pierrot wai released three dtya ago, and, having bought a pair of revolvers, returned to iie old haunts and sought out Peloug, with whom he sat in various cafes drinking far into the night At about 3 a.m. Pierrot invited hie companion to accompany him ip a taxicab to the houie of a mutual friend, where he laid a breakfast awaited them. During tiie journey Pierrot suddenly stopped the taxicab driver and, under menace of a revolver, ordered him to drive off. At the same time he informed Pelous that the time had come to account for ope memory of which they had not so far spoken. "I could kill you," he said, "hut I prefer to make it an honourable duel. Here ia a revolver like my own. March twenty paces and then turn and fire,'' The instruction 3 were duly obeyed, and after they had exchanged tcp shoti both men were picked up wounded, though not gravely. Now each refuses to lodge a complaint against the other, holding that their "duel a l'Americaine" has wiped out a score of five years' standing.
