ARMENIAN HORRORS.

HARROWING DETAILS RECEIVED,

EARTHQUAKE CAUSES HEAVY LOSS.

AppAi-unro state or

CHILDREN.

fßy Cable.-Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, October 29. It is stated that within a radius of 15 miles of Leninakhan, the capital of Russian • Armenia, 12 villages were destroyed and 23 partly wrecked by the recent earthquake. The dead are said to number 300 and thousands are injured. Harrowing details are arriving from Constantinople and from Leninakhan. Miss Olive Hill, of the Near East Relief Committee, states that she saw one camp containing 11,000 homeless people. The most pathetic feature of the disaster is the plight of the children. Weakened by privations they are falling ill and dying in large numbers. "I gathered together £1000 and offered it to the Government," says Miss Hill. "We will succour all the children between the ages of two and twelve through the winter." The committee has established field hospitals and injured persons are arriving there hourly, necessitating many amputations. There is a great scarcity of food and cattle are being killed wholesale.

An earlier message from New York stated that an earthquake bad occurred in Armenia on October 22 and that great damage had been caused. There were said to be thousands of homeless, and thousands of dead and injured.
