• i (Before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) A DRUNKEN HORSEMAN. George Jordan (30), who did not appear, was charged with being drunk ; while in charge of a horse in St. Bene- : diet's Street on Saturday. Constable McKenzie said that Jordan had attempted to ride his steed, but fell oil. When accused saw witness he went off in the opposite direction. Jordan was convicted and ordered to forfeit his bail, a sum of £2. MESSED ABOUT WITH IT. "He had a bottle of beer and was messing about with it, dropping it on the footpath," said a constable about Leonard Gundry (26), who did not appear. Gundry was fined £1 for being drunk in Symonds Street on Saturday, and an additional £1 for "throwing glass on the footpath." HIS FIRST BREACH. Matthew Arbuckle Towers (40), was fined £1 for drunkenness in Queen Street on Saturday, and a further £1 for procuring liquor while prohibited. It was the first breach of his order. DRANK THE MILK. "For some time past residents of Hobson Street have complained to the police about the theft of milk from their billies and- jugs," said Sergeant Calwell. "At 4.15 this morning a constable saw accused approach a door and drink the milk which the milkman had not long left." William Henry Dwyer (36), was the culprit, and he pleaded guilty when charged with stealing milk valued at 6d. the property of Daniel Mays. Dwyer's drink cost him a fine of £1, in default, three days' gaol. FURTHER REMANDS GRANTED. ' William Ernest Snelling (46), for whom Mr. J. J. On a charge of stealing postal notes valued at 6/, the property of the Post-master-General, Alexander Ronald McDonald (48), who was represented in court by Mr. J. J. Sullivan, was remanded until October 21, bail being renewed. Eric Taylor (24), against whom there is a charge of having assaulted William George Ferguson, with intent to rob him of a watch and chain valued at £25 and S/ in money, was also stood over until Thursday. Mr. Fennell appeared for accused, who was granted bail. £200. That he did break and enter the warehouse of Dearsley's, Ltd.. in Nugent Street on September 10. and steal footwear and a. suitcase, of a total value of £73 15/3. was the charge preferred against Vivian Charles Richardson (26), for whom Mr. Beekerleg appeared. On the application of Chief Detective Cummings. a remand until Thursday was granted, with bail as before. ONEHUNGA POLICE COURT. (Before Mr. W. R. MeKcan, S.M.) A NOVEL PLEA. Charles Gordon Johns knocked a man down while driving frccn Papakura to Auckland. He did not appear this morning to answer a charge of negligent driving, but his solicitor, Mr. C. A." Herman pleaded guilty on his behalf, and stated that his client could not account for the accident except that, by the monotony of the drive, his judgment had become dulled. He had agreed to pay £15 to the injured man at the rate "of £1 per week. I A conviction was recorded, with £2 15/ to pay. HEAD-ON COLLISION. On August 21 last, Charles H. Waterton ran into a motor lorry in charge of \V. H. Haslip, i n Church Street East, Onehunga. \\ hen summoned to answer a ■charge of negligent driving, Waterton wrote to Sergeant J. A. Cruickshank admitting the charge, and stating that he had no excuse to offer.
