RUGBY FOOTBALL.
CLOSE OF THE SEASON. MARIST WIN POLLARD CUP. The curtain on the season's senior Rugby at Auckland was rung down at the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon, when Marist Old Boys defeated Grammar Old Boys in the final game of the Pollard Cup competition. For the first ten minutes of the game Grammar had all the better of the argument, and a try came their way when Hook fielded from a lucky bounce and stepped his way through the opposition from twenty-five yards out to score near the corner. Badeley 's kick failed. There was no further score before half time, although a dash by Loft, almost equalised the scores. Three points to the bad. Marists put more snap into their work after half time, and outside the whites' twentyfive, set up a movement, which ended with a try by Broderick. Bradanovieh converted. Stung by this reverse, Grammar rallied, but twice were pulled up for over-eagerness. After a Grammar attack, Tykes made a sortie, from which Stewart opened up the play in good style before passing to Loft, who out-paced the opposition to score between the posts. Bradanovieh had no trouble with the kick. Bustling tactics by Grammar took play over the blues' line and a scrum was ordered five yards out. Keeping the Tykes hemmed in Grammar pressed for a score and their efforts wore rewarded when Tfwerson fielded a kick and slipped over near the corner. Badeley failed to add the minor points. Despite strenuout efforts by both sides there was no further score before full time. Marists 10 Grammar 6 JUNIOR GAMES. THIRD INTERMEDIATE GRADE. Semi-finals. Ponsonby 13, beat Parnell 11.
