REVUE SENSATION.

PANIC AMONG BLONDES

ZIEGFELD PREFERS BRUNETTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

SAN FRANCISCO, July 20

A big rumpus has been caused throughout theatrical America in consequence of Florence Ziegfeld, who has a noted revue in New York, declaring that he will in future have no more blondes. He wants well-rounded dancers, and nbt those delicately-built blondes who are too weak to do their allotted task on the stage. His company of blondes have hurled a threat of striking and they say the glorifier of American womanhood will have to take back the hard sayings atributed to him in reference to blondes, or the little golden-haired ladies in the chorus —who number 7o per cent of hi 3 company—will stage a walkout. Paulette Goddard, strike leader, spoke up for her sisters, and said if the worst came to the worst they would leave their jobs cold and the poor tired business man would be much harder hit than he had been in New York's suowav strike.

It was all because Ziegfeld preferred brunettes and said his next chorus would be made up of dark beauties entirely. It was a direct and terrible slam at them, the blondes said, and they simply would not stand for it.

Said petite Paulette: "It is a matter of principle, that's what it is. We won't be discriminated against in any such way. Why, any gentleman knows that a beautiful blonde is the loveliest thing in the world, and that's what they all come to see the revue for. Mr. Ziegfeld has not only hurt our feelings, but he has certainly hurt our future. If he turns us down, what other manager will take us in? We'll be blacklisted, and all the mascara and lips-tick in the world won't help us any."
