GOOD BYE OLD TAWSE!

"DAY'S DISASTER" NO MORE,

SCRAPPING THE STRAP

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

CHRISTCHURCH, this day

New Brighton schoolboys had the dreaded symbol of the master's authority delivered into their hands on Friday, when the headmaster of the New Brighton school, who is retiring, was farewelled by the pupils and presented with a gold watch.

After thanking them, he said that he had thrown away a lot of rubbish during the past week and would now throw aivav the last of it.

So saying the headmaster cast the strap from him into the crowd of boys, who immediately fell upon it and cut it into ribbons. Some say they are keeping the fragments as souvenirs of "memorable occasions."
