» AND FORGED CHEQUE. HECTIC HONEYMOOXER. After a hectic honeymoon, during which money w*as splashed about in a reckless fashion, Thomas Hughes, an Englishman, lately arrived from New Zealand, pleaded guilty of forgery and uttering at the Sydney Quarter Sessions. Hughes is at present undergoing sentence of three months for refusing to pay a bill of £85, representing a fortnight's board and expenses at the Hotel Australia. The latest charge of forgery involves £200. Detective Sadler told Judge Edwards that Hughes had married a divorcee in Sydney shortly after his arrival, although the woman's decree would not be made absolute until August. There were other charges pending against him in Xew Zealand, for which provisional warrants bad been issued. The accused, in a statement, confessed that he had been foolish, and said that it was up to him to make good. He asked for leniency. "I am afraid I can do nothing for you." said .ludge Edwards. "I sentence you to twelve months' imprisonment."
