PAPAKURA. PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD. • Th l ra p oku ™ Town Board met last evening the chairman (Rev. W. C. Wood) presiding, flicre was a full attendance of members. In response to a ratepayer's letter drawing attention to tap grown of gorse and blackberry around trees planted by the Beautifying Society in Valley Koad. it was decided that the attention of the Noxious Weeds Inspector be drawn to the matter. The validity or otherwise „f the Board's Dy-law. which grants the board power to alter its own by-laws under certain circumstances, formed the subject of a lengthy discussion. At a previous meeting 'permission had been granted a ratepayer to carry out additions to his (ireat South Road premises in wood nnd iron. At a later date, following on an objection by a local firm of building contractors, the "permission had been withdrawn. The ratepayer concerned was present, anil slated that his solicitors had advised him to proceed with the building according to the permit already granted to him. Acting on the written advice of the Board's solicitors, the Board's original motion was rescinded. A further motion was then carried granting the application, with a proviso that a dividing corrugated wall is to be erected fronting the adjoining properties. TAIHAPE. The installation of officers of the Mackay Lodge of Druids was held in the OddfellowsHall on Friday eveninz. Bro. R. M. Sheldon. P.A., was installing officer, assisted by Bro. A. Gracey. A meetinir was held on Friday of Anglican Church ladies to form a Guild. Mrs. Stanley was elected president, and Mrs. Lightbewl vice-president : joint secretaries. Mrs. Thodson. Mrs. I.evich : committee. Mesdames Wood. Jackson. Proffltt. Trask. Clemett and Whettou. It was-deeided to hold a bazaar later in th* year. At the Bowling Club's pavilion on Monday evening a farewell social was tendered Mr. O. King, who has disposed of his chemist's business, and is leaving the town. The president. Mr. Annison. presented the departing member with a handsome gold watchchain. At the annual meetinir of the Ohakune Fire Board if was decided to take out an insurance policy of £400 on the building, and fion on contents. A local business lady has had a unique hut pleasant surprise. A week ago she had lost a valuable nnd cherished ring, and advertisements. inquiries and continuous search failed to brine it to light. Imagine her joy when a package came by post and revealed its contents to he the lost ring, 't appears that in packing a parcel to he sent to Westnort the lady must have dropped the ring in the packing matter, and, fortunately it was returned.
