TRANSJORDANIA.
THE PREMIER RESIGNS.
LONDON, June 20.
The Jerusalem correspondent of the "Times" reports that Rida Pasha Rikabi whom the British Government appointed Premier of Transjordania, has resigned Hie resignation was due to the opposition of M. Henri de Jouvenel, French Governor of Syria, and the Emir, Abdullah, who accused him of Francopholiem. Tewrik Pasha will probably succeed to the Premiership.— ("Times.")
Transjordania is bounded on the west by Palestine, on the north by Syria, on ■ the east by Iraq, and on the south by I Hedjaz and Kejd. It has an Arab population of about 240,000. Transjordania was captured by the Emir Fejsal on April 7, 1918. British troops operated there in the spring of 1918, and the retreating Turkish garrison of Maan surrendered to General Chaytor, of the N.Z.E.F., with the Australian Light I Hone, at Qaatal on September 29, 1918.
