POVERTY BAY BEATEX, 4-0. From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Saturday. Tiie first Brown Shield match this season was played on Seddon Park this afternoon before a Due crowd. This Is the first occasion on which the Shield has been contested for by a minor association. The teams lined up as follow: Poverty Bay (maroon). —Easten, Sneppard, Downle, CiraUaiii, Roots. llanna. Monk, Armstrong. Watt, Howarth, He!!. South Auckland (red and white;. — Hunter, Whitelaw, Hall, Ashton, Smith, Huz«-I. Barton, Chalmers, Moon, Storey, Kennedy.

South Auckland won the toss, defending the southern goal aud having the best of the opening exchanges, pretty head work enabling Barton to have a shot which Just went over.

Then Phil Roots (Poverty Bay) tricked h!s opposition with neat footwork, only to miss the soal mouth by a yard.

Play was at once leversfd. Chalmers kickins very hish and enabling Moon to get under, heading the ball right into goal over the keeper's bead, first icore going to the "local team.
