£1000 UP ON LAST YEARS FIGURES.

Described as the most successful ever held, the 1926 Auckland Winter Exhibition was closed on Saturday evening after having been open for ten days.

A record was established as far as gate receipts were concerned the total being £4843, compared with £355!) for nine days last rear. This year's receipts exceed those of 1025 by nearly £1000. The daily average was £4S*4 compared with £42S last year. These figures give a striking example of the popularity of the fixture, especially when it is remembered that the 1925 function was held whilst the American fleet was in port.

Saturday's "gate"' amounted to £643, compared with £1075 for the previous Saturday, and £SSO for the final day of last year's show. The takings on Saturday were the second largest of the 1926 exhibition, despite a strong coun-ter-attraction in the trotting meeting at Alexandra Park.

It was decided by the joint executive committee on Saturday to donate £100 to the Mayor's Relief Fund for the unemployed. The sum will he made up of £50 from the Auckland A. and P. Association' and a similar amount from the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association. Mr. Jesse McCorkindale, proprietor of the "'roll-down." and "rabbit" games at the exhibition, has notified the committee that he intends to make a donation of £10 for the relief of distress among the unemployed of the city.

Dancing competitions were he,ld at the show by the Auckland Highland and National Dancing Society on Saturday ■afternoon. Sailors hornpipe, 13 to IS years, novice: Clarice Peterson, 1: Wilma Lockwoorl. 2: Thelma Blackson. 3.

At the conclusion of tlie inhibition on Saturday evening the official caterer, Mr. J. Haynes, entertained the executive committee and their wives and lady friends at supper.

Mr. W. W. Massey. the joint president of the Winter Exhibition, during the course of a few .-remarks, made particular reference to the kindness and courtesy extended tp the association by the Auckland Harbour Board. Expressions of appreciation of the amicable manner in which the A. and P. and Industrial Associations had worked together were also made by the president. He paid a Tiigh tribute to the work and enterprise displayed by the four district courts, and said it was an incentive to other districts in the Auckland Province to compete next year. Mr. Massey also thanked the Press for the great help and consideration given, and said that this was. in no small measure one of the causes of the success attained. The executive was more.than pleased at the manner in which Mr. Haynes had carried out his onerous catering duties.

Mr. Joll, on behalf of .the Industrial Association, endorsed the president's remarks, and Mr. Haynes said it was always, a pleasure for him to work for either the A. and P. or the Industrial Association.
