In the Supreme Court Bert Somerville Nieper, formerly Greymouth manager for Wilson, Can'ham and Co., .withdrew his previous plea of not guilty nnd admitted five charges of theft from his employers, the total sum involved being £674 8/5. Taking into consideration the prisoner's previous good character, and the fact that he had assisted the police in tracing the defalcations, the Judge said he would treat the case as an exceptional one, and admitted accused to probation for three years, conditional on his making restitution at the rate' ' of £2 per week and paying £10 G/ expenses.
