POPULAR BANKING STAFF.

DIRECTORS' COMPLIMENTS. Speaking at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., the chairman of directors (Sir Geo. Elliot) moved a hearty vote .of thanks to the general manager and the staff for their splendid services during the past year. He said that Mr. Buckleton's heart and 9oul were in the Bank of New Zealand, and he had under him thoroughly trustworthy and reliable officers. They were living so close to the batik that they did not see the greatness of the institution. It was a world institution, and the greater the institution became the better for New Zealand. In acknowledging the vote of thanks, Mr. Henry Buckle'ton, general manager, remarked that the success of the bank depended to no inconsiderable extent on the way in which branch managers and. to a leaser degree, the general ollice staff discharged their duties. He, was glad to be able to say that among the senior staff they had' several .officers of tne highest promise who, with the training and the experience they were now obtaining, would be competent to fill the highest positions. Among the officers were a number of young men of great promise, who were being given special opportunities of qualifying for responsible positions.
