(To the Editor.) Sir,—Haying heard so much discussion on,tlie subject I was very much inter-, ested ill reading the article in Tuesday's "Star" on X-ray charges at the Auckland Hospital. The present state of affairs iii that departiheht seerii' most Either a patient quietly pays an excessive charge or has the unpleasant task of explaining to the official in charge that the' fee is more thin he (the patient) can afford to-pay. The article states it was desired to king about a uniform scale of charges for X-ray examination,' and as the Christchnrch Hospital fees were higher than those in Auckland, the latter institution evidently "had no difficulty iri persuading itself 'that the "uniform charge" must necessarily he. the higher fee. Why should the Christchurch Hospital, not come.,dqwri T „t6. the-.Auckland, rate of .chatge __ri we have it on good authority that private* practitioners are very well -satisfied with £11/ and £2 2/? What is wrong with the public hospital that its fees must soar up to even £6 6/? Onft.never thought of our hospital as a money-making proposition, but as an institute for public benefit*—l am, etc., LA.M.
